Students stay in the University Halls of Residence in Oadby, except for the one night where they go observing and camp under the stars. more

altThe University of Leicester Observatory, opened in 1980, now houses one of the most advanced astronomical teaching facilities available at a UK University. The powerful 20-inch piCETL telescope was opened in 2009 by former NASA astronaut Jeff Hoffman (whose spacewalk helped fix the out-of-focus Hubble Telescope) and is located in the larger dome in the picture.

You will be shown how to use both telescopes by a trained demonstrator, and have the opportunity to use them yourself (weather permitting).
